Solo show in House of Lords of Kunstat, The Brno House of Arts, Dec. 2011 – Jan. 2012
The project "Next Planet" presents group of five interconnected video installations conceived for five large gallery rooms of The House of Lords of Kunstat in Brno. The works touch phenomena on the borders of real – physical and illusive – data spaces. They oscilate between material nad immaterial, depictive and non-depictive, realism and abstraction. Paralels within the datascape and physical world can be observed both in visual form and language we use to describe the two realities. All gallery halls were darkened, only the medium defined the light and sound space.
Defragmentation is a process of rearranging scattered data over the computer hard drive. Thus the operation system regains its original efficiency. Defragmentace je proces přeskupování roztroušených dat na počítačovém diskovém poli tak, aby se operačnímu systému navrátila jeho původní výkonnost. Cluster is a term for workgroup of interconnected computers or logical unit of hard drive data storage. The computation of the particles movements is based on parameters which simulate natural processes and so they can not be exactly controlled. The program has certain amount of authonomy. The result is a swarm of data units just escaped from their algorithms.
Cluster je termín pro skupinu vzájemně propojených počítačů nebo logickou jednotku pevného disku, do které se ukládají data. Výpočet pohybu částic je určován parametry, které simulují přírodní síly, nelze jej tedy přesně regulovat a program tak dostává určitou míru autonomie. Výsledkem je roj datových jednotek uniknuvších ze svých algoritmů.
Three hard drives spin in high speed while accessing the data on their platters. Their oscillations are synchronised to natural sounds of birds. It seems that the sound comes directly from the discs. Is the assumption that we can backup anything so close to utopia when technologies generate a world of harmony?
Tři pevné disky rotují vysokou rychlostí a jejich čtecí hlavy vyhledávají soubory dat. Rychlé kmitání provázejí synchronní zvuky zpěvu ptáků. Vypadá to, jakoby zvuky vycházely přímo z disků. Má předpoklad, že vše lze zálohovat, již blízko k utopii, kde technologie generují harmonický svět?
We watch flight over a terrain of an undetermined location in wide cinematographic format. Fluency of the footage is being interrupted by defects which reminds of imperfections in data transfer. The scenery feels disturbing for its ambiquity and uncertainty. Is this story without the narration of this landsacpe painting a hunt or a searching, is it a conquest or escape?
V širokoúhlém kinematografickém formátu sledujeme přelet nad terénem neurčité lokality. Plynulost obrazu je však rušena chybami a kazy připomínajícími nedokonalosti v přenosu dat. Záběr působí znepokojivě svou ambivalentností a nejistotou. Je příběh bez děje této krajinomalby pátráním či hledáním, dobýváním nebo únikem?
